66th Southeastern Conference

The Southeastern Conference is the oldest Conference for AA members in the United States and because of that it has been dubbed “The Granddaddy of Them All.” The Conference started in 1944 and this year we will be holding the 66th Southeastern Conference.

The Southeastern Conference routinely follows a regular rotation schedule throughout the 13 Areas that make up the Southeast Region of Alcoholics Anonymous. In recent years it has been held in conjunction with the State Convention in the Area in which it has been held.

In 2010 the Southeastern Conference will be held in conjunction with the 54th Florida State Convention on August 11-15, 2010 at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida. Individuals who register for the 54th Florida State Convention will automatically be registered for the 66th Southeastern Conference as well. The Florida State Convention is a large convention and there will be a variety of workshops going on simultaneously. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose whichever workshops or activities they wish to attend.

The Southeastern Conference has traditionally been a service oriented conference and therefore there will be workshops covering recovery, unity and service subjects. These workshops will be presented by current and past Delegates and Trustees from the Southeast Region. In addition, we have invited three of our most respected trusted servants to speak at this year's Conference. Phyllis H. is currently serving as the General Manager of the General Service Office, El N. is currently serving as the Southeast Regional Trustee, and Don M. is currently serving as the Trustee-at-Large US. All three of these individuals bring a wealth of experience to their respective positions and we feel privileged to have them joining us this year.

On Saturday a luncheon for Delegates and Trustees will be held. This luncheon will be paid for by the individual Delegates who attend the lunch. Following the luncheon the Southeast Regional Trustee will present her Regional Trustee’s report and an informal meeting, chaired by Ken C., Area 15’s Delegate, will be held. Attendance at the Delegates’ luncheon is limited to all current and past area Delegates, current Alternate Delegates, current and past Trustees and current and past staff members from the General Service Office.

The Southeastern Regional Business Meeting will be held on Saturday afternoon. At that time a report will be presented from the committee planning the 67th Southeastern Conference which will be held, next summer, and attendees will be asked to approve the site selection for the 68th Southeastern Conference to be held in 2012. In addition, other business of the Southeast Region will be presented. Any member of Alcoholics Anonymous whose home group is with the Southeastern Region may participate and vote on all matters presented during the regional business meeting.
